TAIPEI, March 21 (Reuters) - Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen will transit the United States to and from a visit to Central America on a trip starting at the end of this month, the presidential office said on Tuesday.

HOUNDE, Burkina Faso, March 21 (Reuters) - A small group of activists have been walking from Mali's capital Bamako to Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou to express their support for a federation between the two West African states.

A nearly two-minute preview video, made available before the campaign rollout in early March, featured soldiers jumping out of airplanes, working on helicopters, climbing obstacle courses and diving underwater. The 'Be All You Can Be' slogan dominated its recruiting ads for two decades starting in 1981.

The United States has been shoring up alliances in the Asia-Pacific seeking to counter China's assertiveness in the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait, as Beijing seeks to advance its territorial claims.

"It is for us today to push our governments, our institutions, our people to move towards a federation because we believe that only the federation can be the global and definitive solution for Africa," said Souleymane Diouf Diallo, spokesperson for the group, calling itself "The walkers for African unity".

Holding the flags of both countries and the African Union, the group of about a dozen men and women walked in single file last week on the side of a road near Hounde, in western Burkina Faso, as they neared the finish line of a trek of more than 860 km (535 miles).

March 23 (Reuters) - The United States and Canada have reached a deal that would allow for the closure of an unofficial border crossing between New York state and the province of Quebec, but the final details still need to be worked out, a Canadian government source familiar with the talks told Reuters.

March 21 (Reuters) - Nvidia Corp, the computing company powering the bulk of artificial intelligence, is positioning itself as a key player in quantum computing with the launch of new software and hardware.

The program would help run the algorithm across quantum and classical computers depending on which system is most efficient in solving the problem. On Tuesday at its developer conference GTC, Nvidia unveiled CUDA Quantum, a platform for building quantum algorithms using popular classical computer coding languages C++ and python.

And even when they become good enough to be useful, they would have to be paired with powerful digital computers to operate, said Sivan. While quantum computers could potentially speed up some calculations millions of times faster than the fastest supercomputer, it is still uncertain when that would happen.
